Catch up

Hope you've got a lot of time folks because we've got lots to catch up on!

We started November with a check up at the Doctors office.  Hank weighed in at 34 lbs and Carsyn at 32.  She is 40" tall and Hank is 36" tall.

We also celebrated my friend, Ricarda's sweet daughter Kasyn's second birthday.  Clearly Kasyn was more interested in eating cake than posing with Carsyn,

We ventured down to Rupp to watch the cats play.  If you look at the pic closely you can see basically the entire snack stand balancing on the hubby's lap.  So that's the secret of getting a 2 year old to sit through an entire ball game. Pizza, hot dogs, popcorn, and Sprite.

We went to the Lexington Holly Day Market too.

Hanky had just had his flu shots which made him terribly cranky so I was SHOCKED when he climbed up in Santa's lap and wrapped his arms around him professing his love.

Carsyn's favorite was Mrs Claus.

My sweet niece Emersyn turned 1 and had a twinkle twinkle little star birthday.

We also went and had Thanksgiving lunch with Maddox.  I really thought he'd try to be the cool kid and ignore us but he was so excited.  He kept showing Carsyn and Hank around and holding their hands.  He's the sweetest child.

We took the kiddos to see the new Penguins movie and they loved it.  Aren't they hilarious?

We visited EKY and had Thanksgiving with our families.

And we wrapped up Thanksgiving weekend with a trip to the tree lot.

I'm still decorating and haven't really started shopping yet!! Time to get with it! Hope y'all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Highs and Lows

My warm and fuzzy feeling of Thanksgiving wonderment lasted all of about 2 hours...Both of the kiddos took a downward turn on Thanksgiving.  I think we're all on the mend now though!

Carsyn was in a chipper mood on Thanksgiving morning and had so much fun playing with her cousins.

Hank, on the other hand just felt terrible.  He had recently had his shots and had a fever on and off all day.

We decorated the tree in Carsyn's room and the playroom and she is just so excited Christmas is here.

Did I fail to mention we ended up in the ER Saturday night?  Carsyn had been saying it hurt to pee in the potty and I honestly thought it was an excuse..and it still might have been.  The Drs found nothing wrong and said she might just be irritated.

Rosie and I took Carsyn to see Frozen.  Have y'all seen it?  Its seriously amazing.  We've been singing "Do you want to build a snowman" every night.

I'm not sure if Hank is still recovering or if he's turning into a couch potato, but lately he's been laying on the sofa in small spurts watching TV.. and eating biscuits.  That's the life, Hank!

I should add, he is feeling well enough to continue to wreak havoc on big sis's Barbie house.

traditions and remembering

I love Thanksgiving.  Its my favorite holiday, really.  Great food and family and the excitement of Christmas just around the corner.

I was thinking today about how things have changed and thinking about my past Thanksgivings.

Perhaps one of my fondest was in 2002 or 2004.  I cannot remember exactly.  I was a young newlywed and pretty carefree.  I was working for dad, of course and spent a lot of time with my grandma.  We were on a cooking kick (well she was always on a cooking kick) and had plans for a big Thanksgiving.  We had the newest Southern Living at our fingertips and had studied it thoroughly.

We brined our turkey the day before.  We prepared our traditional cranberry salad together and spent the Wednesday before Thanksgiving laughing and chatting in the kitchen.  I will be forever grateful for that day.

That night I came home, did my usual treadmill run and made my first ever batch of dressing and pumpkin roll.  I was up until 2 or 3 and didn't care.

We had the best Thanksgiving.  We took extra pains setting the table.  We put the turkey on a big platter, placed it in the middle of the table and surrounded it with the dressing balls I had made.  We drew names for Christmas, squealing at the delight of getting a female name or groaning in agony of what to get the men in our family.  I might have drawn my own name and sneaked it to my grandma.  We were all smiles, all thankful, all blessed.

All I can think now is why didn't I get a picture?
Maybe if I document it here I'll never forget it...though likely I never will.

Fast forward to present day.

And some things never change.  I'm still making pumpkin rolls and just got my fourth out of the oven.  I took a break to come upstairs and let Carsyn splash around in my tub while I sat at my computer.  I had planned on doing a little pre Black Friday online shopping, but my mind wandered to Thanksgiving past.

I'm so very thankful.  And it never hits me until I get a chance to think.  To really think.

I'm thankful my pops gave me the day off to cook with my littles.

I'm thankful that I get to spend tomorrow with my In-laws who comprise of the sweetest individuals I'm blessed to call family.

I'm thankful for a husband that prepared my favorite Margherita pizza for dinner.

I'm thankful I made it through the day with one very mild toddler tantrum.

I'm thankful my sweet boy is feeling better and hanging with big sister on the sofa.

I'm thankful for sweet friends I can always chat with about little things..(wink, wink-you know who you are).

I'm thankful for leggings which I will promptly rock all weekend.

And..I'm thankful this sweet, perfect baby girl (aka my niece, Emersyn Kingsley) finally made her debut!

Thankful..

For a happy, healthy, loving family..

For karaoke machines..

For a spirited little chick (even if she doesn't like pictures with momma)..

For an awesome mom and sister..

For a little fella who was barely a blip a year ago and tried cereal for the first time tonight..

Thanksgiving

Yes, I'm aware that was nearly one month ago, but we had such a good Thanksgiving I still remember it pretty vividly!



Carsyn would not keep her pilgrim hat on! She had so much fun playing with all of her cousins and seriously ate 5 lbs of turkey. She might look like daddy but that girl can put away turkey like momma ;)

 

 

Do y'all know how hard it is to get a good picture of four kids?? Completely impossible-Carsyn's bow would fall down then Ella would look away to put it back then Maddox would die laughing then poor Alex would ask if we were finished. I swear we took 100 pictures and these were the best I got.

 

Weekend Recap & My Little Turkey

If you follow me on twitter you know the babe has been sick- as in stay in all weekend sick.

 

Some notes-

A mass load of laundry was washed and sorted- on my kitchen table-ick. Did you know my next home will have a huge laundry/mudroom?

So I might have feigned sleeping with baby girl and snapped a pic. We did take a snooze togther but the hubby was doing stuff and too busy to capture the moment. I tell myself someday when Carsyn is a teenager and hates me I'll show her this to remind her a) we used to get along b) how I took care of her when she was sick and c)she used to be my baby girl.

Carsyn literally "read" a book for 20 minutes this weekend. She jabbered and turned pages and squealed doggie and baby. (I'm aware its upside down-kid is clearly a genius). I couldn't find any doggies in the book, but I'm sure they existed.

Are y'all ready for Thanksgiving? We're wearing our turkeys around here!
