About Dads

Growing up I often heard the tale that girls end up marrying someone like their father.

I laugh at the truth in that statement from time to time.

Both my dad and my husband have the strongest work ethic of anyone I know.  They are both extremely driven individuals and the 2 smartest men I know.  I still blame my dad working 12 hour days for the reason I sit up late at night.

Summers were awesome because often it was light enough outside when he got home to shoot a few hoops or swim in the pool.  He always got me with his double or nothing game.  Basically he would start shooting 3 pointers by saying $5 bucks if I miss this.  He would miss 10 in a row and I'd be calculating how many NKOTB posters I could buy before he killed my dream with a simple swoosh of the net.  Now I realize he knew what he was doing the whole time and missing on purpose.

If it was a swim night sometimes he would swim with me and others he would challenge me to see how fast I could swim laps.

And, as I've probably said before, if we were indoors lots of night Rosie would fix us bacon, eggs, and toast and we'd catch up on Bond movies.  Sorry Pops, Roger Moore will always be my favorite.  But we can both agree we like our eggs sunny side up.

Just like my favorite moment of the day was when Pops rolled in the driveway my kid's favorite moment is when their dad walks through the door.  The minute they hear the door open its "Daddy's home!", "Daddy's home!" Usually there's a quick game of tag followed by hugs and kisses.

I love watching that part of the day.  Some days he beats us home, some days he surprises us and meets us at the pool, but no matter where, their little expressions when they see him never get old.

Especially when they are surprised at ballet performances ;)

And  I might have forgotten to mention who they prefer post bath snuggles from.

So, happy Father's Day Daddy and Pops.  Carsyn, Hank, and I are blessed beyond measure to have you.

Hooray for Dads

We had a wonderful Father's Day weekend and I hope y'all did as well.

We spent all day Saturday in the pool.

Hank is such a daddy's boy.  He will not get off the steps for me, but W persuaded him to go for a full length of the pool piggy back ride this weekend.

We spent Sunday with my in laws and parents.

I love when we get all 4 kids together.  Its crazy but so much fun.

And come on..can't you tell they love their pops?!

A Father's Love

As a self proclaimed daddy's girl I can say there is nothing like the love one receives from their daddy.

We were lucky enough to spend Father's Day with my husband's dad and grandfather and I know there is nowhere else W would have wanted to be.  Their love for one another is the sweetest thing.

Love you Papaw Leon and Papaw Marv!

dear pops

Dear Pops,

We think you're the most awesome grandpa! Its evident mom thinks you're the greatest thing since sliced bread and we'd have to agree.

You never lose patience with us.  You never utter the words "I'm too busy" or "I can't right now."

You take work breaks to bring us pizzas and french fries.

You're so mighty and tall with one small swoop you can make our heads bounce off the ceiling.  Its quite fun.

Its pretty neat that one of us inherited your strawberry curls and the other your long legs (wonder if you can figure out which one is which-hee hee).

You always sing songs to us..that must be where mommy got her angel voice from...(why does that make daddy snicker?)

You taught us one of our very favorite games "yellow jacket, yellow jacket."

You give us back rubs and foot massages.

Anyway pops, we love you so much! To the moon and back just like big nutbrown hare!

Happy Father's Day to our wonderful Grandfather!

Love,

Carsyn & Hank

Dear Daddy

Dad, we're pretty much two peas in a pod.  You think we butt heads sometimes, but really-its because we're just alike.  From our skinny little legs to our quick temper we have too many similarities to count.

I love weekends when you get up with me and we watch Phineas and Ferb, and eat pancakes.  I ask for you first thing every morning during the week.  Mommy tells me you're at work.  Boo!  That means no playing outside. You always take me outside as soon as I finish breakfast and we play in the dirt and the pool!

Daddy, you've never lost your patience with me.  Ever.  That's awesome! I know my little hissy fits may not be cute to everyone, but you think they are.

We have so much fun playing "I get you" together and chasing each other around.  You are also really good at hanging me upside down while I squeal with laughter.

Another thing that's great is your cookie stash! Its never ending.  I don't know why mommy denies me sometimes.

Thanks for being my pal, dad, my cuddle buddy, my hero.  There's a reason my eyes light up at the mention of your name.  Its because I LOVE YOU!

Love, Carsyn Presley

Dear Pops

Dear pops, I am so lucky to have you for a dad!

Thank you for always being there for me.  For attending my boring tennis matches when I was in high school.  For cheering me on at basketball games when I rarely played and never scored.  For never being too tired to shoot hoops when you got home from working late.  For showing all of your buddies what a good little underground swimmer I was (though I think I nearly drowned showing off to make you proud)!  For cutting up my steak for dinner.

Thank you for teaching me the value of a dollar.  For telling me daily to never get above my raising.  For reminding me that these years are the best years of my life.  For showing me its never to late in life to follow your dream.  For teaching me that working hard often leads to great success.  For showing me the pride to be had in growing a garden.

Thank you for being you- the best dad a girl could ask for.  I adore you pops!
